Questions regarding professional teeth whitening:

Q: What is professional teeth whitening

A: Professional teeth whitening is a method of brightening the smile without over-the-counter treatments. In most instances, professional whitening treatments can help patients achieve better results in a faster period of time. Instead of using low-grade strips and trays purchased at the drug store, patients can use top-of-the-line, high-concentration gels to get their smile brighter than ever before! Professional teeth whitening is done with the assistance of our experienced dental team, and patients can get reliable and long-lasting results with our professional products.

Q: What methods of teeth whitening are available?

A: The team of Miami Modern Dental is pleased to offer two varieties of whitening solutions for patients, including the:

  • In-office power bleaching
  • Take-home whitening kits

Both have benefits that patients can consider.

Q: What is the difference between in-office whitening and take-home whitening kits?

A: The two main differences between the in-office power bleaching and the take-home whitening kits available are price and time frame. The in-office power bleaching procedure costs more than our take-home whitening kits. However, the results are obtained the same day. A more affordable option may be that of our take-home whitening kits, though the results are obtained over the course of several days, sometimes weeks.

Q: How does each method work?

A: First and foremost, our in-office power bleaching is one of our more popular choices. This is because patients can come into the office to have the work done and enjoy a brilliantly new smile right away. The in-office power bleaching starts with a cleaning of the teeth and gums to remove plaque and tartar and ensure the foundation of the smile is ready for the bleaching treatment. Barrier gel is applied to the gums to protect them from the higher-concentration of bleaching ingredients. Then, the dentist or dental hygienist will administer the special bleaching gel onto the visible surfaces of the teeth while an appliance holds the patient’s mouth open wide. A special light is used to activate the ingredients of the bleaching gel to help pull deep, dark stains from the enamel. Within an hour, the treatment is complete, and patients will notice their smile has improved up to eight shades whiter than when they started.

The take-home whitening kits are used at home instead of in the dental office. Patients start by having impressions done of their upper and lower dental arch. These impressions are used to create custom trays that will fit perfectly in place over the teeth. Patients are also given prescription-strength whitening gel to use inside the trays and to wear for a specific period of time each day. Patients control the amount of whitening they achieve depending on how long they use the trays.

In some cases, patients can combine both the in-office power bleaching and the take-home whitening kits to obtain the best possible smile! The in-office power bleaching can help patients get a head-start on their smile, while the take-home whitening kits can be used afterwards to continue to maintain the results or achieve even more whitening results. It is important that patients be aware of the chance of sensitivity if they choose to utilize both methods of whitening to get their smile brighter. Our dentist will discuss the possibility of dual treatment if it is appropriate for the patient.
